Pinochle Software

Here is a list of known pinochle apps for computers and mobile devices. Some of these apps have not been updated in years and may not work on recent operating systems -- check the web links for more information.

I am the developer of the fishdog.net apps, and they are pretty good. For the most recent versions, I get mostly 4 or 5 star reviews in iTunes. I typically update these apps monthly, fixing bugs and adding user-requested features. I've also released a Mac version in the Mac App Store, which has gotten good and bad reviews, although gameplay should be almost identical to the iOS versions.

Trivial Technology has released some clones of the fishdog.net apps for iOS with a few features added. I suppose I should be flattered by the imitation, but I'm more annoyed that they didn't design their own user interface.

Steven Weinreich has a pinochle game for iOS, and it includes some different features, although the user interface is quite poor. (I wish Trivial Technology had copied Steven's UI instead of mine.)

I bought the Webfoot pinochle app for Mac, and can't quite figure it out. Possibly it's a 2-handed game originally written for Apple II or MS-DOS. It needs A LOT of work.

The Yoeric pinochle game for Mac doesn't appear to have been updated for Mac OS X, but I remember playing it on Mac OS 9 on my dad's computer. It had some nice features not present in other pinochle apps.

Hoyle Card Games for Mac and PC has many options and includes several other games in addition to pinochle. Please note that Amazon purchasers give the 2010 version EXTREMELY low marks -- mostly one star out of five. I have played the demo version, and found the game play with animated opponents quite annoying. If possible, pick up an older version of Hoyle instead.

I have heard that SAC pinochle games for Windows are very good. They can be ordered as a set for a reduced price. As far as I know, SAC is selling the only version of cut throat pinochle for any platform. SAC's games include a couple features not yet in the fishdog.net pinochle apps, and the developer updated the apps in 2011.

Microsoft's Bicycle app for Windows 95 was apparently quite buggy -- Amazon customers give it VERY low marks.
